Introduction
This is a simple utility that will scan your system and determine which wireless controller(s) you have in your system. The detector determines the chipset of your wireless controller which should make it easier for you to determine the driver you need to use.
Current Version
The current version is 1.1. Build date is 2008-10-01.
File
Usage
Type the following into a terminal window to run the program:
bash wirelessdetector.sh
To Do
Provide recommended driver to use based on detected chipset.

I'm going to try your nice script on my new TP W700, trying to get Linux to recognize its wireless card…
Meanwhile, I rearranged it so I could see what it was doing a bit better, and — I think — make it more easily maintainable. Also shorter: about 33KB versus almost 83KB.

Umm, this looks like it's running under VirtualPC. You can't configure the wireless this way.

I have a problem with my Presario F500 AMD Turion 64 notebook.
When I ran your wireless detector script, I got the following output, indicating that there is no wireless device. I definitely know that there is one. Your help will be appreciated.

I know nothing about Win$ and ndiswrapper, but there is perhaps a way to use the driver with ndiswrapper. No ?

Compaq 6515b wireless not detected
Hi,
I have read your article about installing wireless driver for compaq 6515b. I downloaded the Win xp driver. Unfortunately, it does not work. ndiswrapper said “no hardware supporting bcmwl5 ndiswrapper module is present”

I executed the .sh file and it executed perfectly alright thanks for the utility although it said that no wireless was found.. I'm having Toshiba A205-S5804 laptop, which comes with inbuilt wireless , When I was having VISTA it used to work perfectly alright.. but I chose to move to linux.. and installed Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy yesterday, I got everything running except my wireless and DVD playback… on priority have to start wireless.. It will be great if you can help me out.. thanks once again, below is the output from the .sh file,

I have updated the utility to support this card. You have the Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8197 Wireless Adapter. You will probably need to use the ndiswrapper module for this.
